The Arrow Competition is an event for the Cub Scouts consisting of teams between three and six Cubs, and a group can enter as many teams as it wishes.
Don’t worry if your young people don’t have the skills to complete all the bases – the bases will be used to teach them, and they will still get points for teamwork and trying hard. We will make up mixed teams on the day if you don’t have enough Cub Scouts to make up a full team.
The Arrow Competition will be based on all areas of the Cub programme but with the emphasis on outdoor scouting. The bases this year will be (with programme area covered):
|Shelter Building||Outdoor (Part 2)|
|Orienteering||Adventure (Part 2), Skills (Parts 1 or 2), Teamwork (Part 4)|
|Pioneering||Adventure (Part 2), Outdoor (Part 2)|
|Pack a rucksack||Adventure (Part 4)|
|Promise challenge||Skills (Part 5), or Teamwork (Part 4)|
|Fire lighting||Adventure (Part 2)|
|Tent pitching||Outdoor (Part 2)|
|A team challenge||Skills (Part 5) or Teamwork (Part 4)|
|Obstacle course||Skills (Part 2) or Adventure (Part 2)|
Saturday 28th September, 10:00 – 17:00 at Melton Scout Campsite, Melton Bottom, HU14 3HU
If your group wishes to camp over after the event then they are welcome to do so – please inform Clare White at the time of booking, and the usual camping fees of £1.50 per person per night apply. There will be a limited number of beds available in the lodge at a cost of £2.50 night, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you do not have a camping permit – please get in touch and we will try to make sure you can still stay over.
On Friday night all leaders and their families are welcome to come for a part social, part setup evening, to help prepare some of the bases. Please bring some cake and lemonade from 19:30. There will be no camping fees and on Saturday morning there will be bacon butties for breakfast (vegetarian option available too, please inform Clare of any dietary requirements).
The event is £2 per Cub Scout payable on the day. This includes drinks and biscuits that will be provided throughout the day.
Cub Scouts will need to bring a packed lunch, waterproofs and suitable footwear. Each group will need to brink a hike tent for the tent pitching challenge.
Please let Clare White know if you’re attending by 21st September, including any adaptations needed for young people with additional needs. Volunteers will also be required to help run the bases, and no special skills are necessary, and a volunteer first aider will be needed. Please inform Clare if you can help.
An Activity Notification Form must be submitted on or before 21st September. This can be done online here.
