Scouts transformation

Volunteering with scouts is becoming easier than ever, and in hull we are making these changes earlier. From a brand new membership system for our volunteers, a team-based approach and award-winning learning available. There has never been a better time to play an active part in your community.

We are changing the way we volunteer, to make it easier and more enjoyable for everyone. Carl Hankinson, UK Chief volunteer talks about what this means bellow.

A warmer welcome.

We want volunteering with Scouts to be as easy and welcoming as possible, and after feedback, HQ found that our appointment process could be daunting to some members. So we are introducing welcome convocations, these are intended to make sure all our volunteers have the support they need to begin volunteering. More information can be found on scouts.org.uk

Changes to learning:

After talking to members HQ have looked at how we complete learning within scouting, making sure you have the tools to support young people learning skills for life safely. With this they have created 2 sections, growing roots the learning all members must complete when they join the movement, and branching out where you can continue to develop your skills. Find out more on our learning & development page.

Team-based approach

We want to make sure the workload is spread out, and not forced onto just one person. That is why with Scout's new volunteering layout the workload can be spread across the whole team. With this comes new role titles, moving from terms like commissioner to lead volunteer. We know you've already started this and are doing great at it, but if you need a bit more guidance check out scouts.org.uk
